Chaos, mad money, unknown quantities signed at huge costs. That is what happens on the deadline day, especially when the club is desperate.
Manchester United are set to announce the transfer of a less known teenager for a whopping sum of 36 million pounds from Ligue 1 side Monaco, last night. Anthony Martial, is a completely unknown and unproven quantity. A pure sign of desperation from the Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal, and he also could not get rid of goalkeeper David De Gea due to a paper work delay.
Anthony Martial will be Manchester United’s third most expensive signing
Yes, you heard that right. His transfer value of 36 million pounds will be only behind, Angel Di Maria (59.7 million pounds) and Juan Mata (37.1 million pounds)
Now, if you consider his stats according to transfermarkt.com his value is estimated at just 8 million euros.
Doesn’t that say it all?
The Monaco forward received regular football last season at the club, also his first full season in the senior squad. Anthony Martial scored a total of 12 goals across all competitions in his 48 appearances, many would say he is a decent forward on that basis. And, it may even draw comparisons to the erstwhile 17-year-old Bojan at Barcelona.
However, Manchester United have in recent times invested heavily on young talents as compared to using their own. Louis Van Gaal sold Javier Hernandez, and looks to replace the Mexican with Anthony Martial.
With Hernandez gone, United only have Wayne Rooney as their striker and he too has clearly been struggling in the Premier League to get goals.
Louis Van Gaal’s decision to bring in a future talent to address the needs of the present scenario is a huge risk to take.
But, then it is the deadline day. And anything can happen until the window closes.
