Probably the most watched TV series across the world, ‘Game of Thrones’ has bagged four awards at the recently concluded Emmy Awards 2015. This is the first time when the HBO drama has bagged the award for the Outstanding Drama category, breaking the four-year old jinx, along with three other top honours. The epic drama tied with ‘Veep’ which also went home with 4 awards including the one for the Best Comedy series.

The immensely popular HBO epic has been on air since 2011 and even though it has been critically and commercially acclaimed to a great degree, the juries at the Emmy’s didn’t deem it worthy of the top honour, but not this time. The show got nominated in all the 24 categories, which tells its success story itself. However, it was nominated for the top Drama Series each year since 2011, it took for years for the creators to bag the top honour for any drama show.

The show had to compete with the likes of biggies such as Orange is the New Black, Mad Men, Downtown Abbey, Better Call Saul and House of Cards in order to get the reputed trophy. Other than the top honour, the show even managed to get the star Peter Dinklage the award for the best supporting actor in a drama, David Nutter for the best director honour and finally David Benioff and DB Weiss for the best writers. This has been quite a good year for Game of Thrones as it had a very successful run for the fourth season and got honoured with the top awards at the most prestigious award ceremony.

The show runners thanked the jury and the whole cast and crew of the show for helping them to make the show this popular and awesome. The show features a long list of actors, and the ensemble cast of some great actors is said to be one of the reasons for the show’s immensely successful run across the globe. Peter Dinklage, who got honoured for portraying the character of Tyrion Lannister on the show said that he did not have anything prepared for the ceremony and he just went with the flow.

The show broke the record set by ‘West Wing’ for the most number of Emmy wins in one year. HBO had a dream run at Emmy’s as besides becoming the best comedy series, it’s show ‘Veep’ swept awards in categories – outstanding lead actress for Julia Louis-Dreyfus, outstanding supporting actor for Tony Hale, outstanding writing for Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci and Tony Roche. Viola Davis got the best actress in a drama series for ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ while Jeffrey Tambor raked in the best actor in a comedy series for ‘Transparent’.
