Black Friday has the sound of doom, but is the day when shoppers traditionally hunt down incredible Christmas bargains.

The day has seen shoppers fighting in the aisles and at check outs while web sites crashed and creaked under the strain of bargain hunters grabbing deals.

What is Black Friday?

A shopping tradition started in the USA aimed at kickstarting Christmas shopping and seasonal sales by offering shoppers rock bottom prices on some goods.

When is Black Friday in 2015?

Black Friday 2015 officially starts at the stroke of midnight on the morning of Friday, November 27, 2015

Black Friday deals

Most retailers have special Black Friday deals ready to unveil – although supermarket chain Asda has announced stores will not take part after fighting and scuffling last year.

Last year, more than £800 million was spent on Black Friday as most big retailers marked down prices to tempt shoppers in to their stores.

What stores are taking part in Black Friday?

Lots of big brands are lining up offers. Argos is running red, white and blue deals on the Fridays running up to Black Friday. The deals include 60% off toys and lots of half-price electrical appliances, laptops and games machines.

Other UK retailers taking part include Debenhams, Curry’s PC World, John Lewis and many more.

Amazon out to beat the rest

Amazon is slashing own-label product prices early in a bid to tempt shoppers on line.

Kindle readers and Fire tablets will sell at low prices in the run up to Black Friday as the online shopping mall intends to better last year’s results.

Black Friday 2014 saw Amazon double sales on the previous year from the global giant’s mobile shopping app.

Expect the best deals to ramp towards Black Friday, but if there is something you really want, jump in and buy early to avoid disappointment.

Should I go to a shop or buy online for Black Friday?

Whether to shop in person or buy online is entirely a personal choice. Bargain stock is likely to be limited and you may have to make a quick decision and grab something that may not be to the technical spec you really want.

If you don’t enjoy the scrum of the sales, staying at home is probably best for you
