The latest Game of Thrones book is on the way – according to a product page revealed on an Amazon web site by mistake.
Winds of Winter, the sixth volume in the series, is unavailable and no image is available, but the French online book shop says the paperback release date is March 9, 2017.
The book is 704 pages long and curiously ranks 187 in the Amazon bestseller list.
Neither the author George RR Martin, Amazon have commented on the gaff.
Martin has a reputation for slow working and not keeping fans informed of developments with his books.
The end is near?
On a blog less than a month ago, he said he was still working on the sixth book in the series and had no further announcement to make.
Publisher Harper Collins said no publication details had been finalised.
Game of Thrones has now reached a curious juncture.
The renowned TV series has reached series seven and now overtaken the book plot line.
No one knows whether Martin will take the easy path and write the closing volumes around the TV series plot or go his own way – or when it will all end.
He originally nygoodhealth.com envisioned the fantasy as a trilogy of 800 pages along the lines of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, but that has stretched now to more than 5,000 pages.
The epic fantasy has sold more than 15 million books and spawned computer games, toy figures and other books about the back stories of the main Game of Thrones characters.
Martin has been writing Game of Thrones for 20 years – starting in August 1996.
“Reviews were generally good, sales were okay. Solid. But nothing spectacular. No bestseller lists, certainly. I went on a book tour around that same time,” Martin wrote on his blog.
“The crowds didn’t reach 100 anywhere, and at one stop, not only was attendance zero but I actually drove four patrons out of the bookshop, allowing me to set my all-time ‘bad signing’ record at minus four.
“I’d thought the whole story could be told in three books, and that it would take me three years to write them, a year per book.”
